Spring is here, so it’s the perfect time to chase away the winter cobwebs and indulge in some deep cleaning. Check out our top tips below on how to get the most out of your spring clean in just one day (you only want to do it once, right?!).

Don’t feel you have to do this on your own either. If it’s the weekend enlist the help of your partner or any family members to shift some of the workload.

Alternatively, we offer a thorough seasonal clean which includes cleaning tiles/grout, upholstery, carpets, fridges and ovens and more!

  1. Gather all your sprays and scrubbers
Fill a bucket with all your sprays, scrubbers, sponges and cloths so you have everything you need on hand. This will speed up the cleaning process so it doesn’t take longer than it should.

Here’s what your speed bucket should have:

  • all-purpose household spray
  • carpet stain remover
  • window and glass cleaner
  • tile cleaner
  • vinegar & baking soda
  • microfiber cloths
  • grout scrubber
  • paper towels
  • trash bags

You’ll also need a vacuum cleaner and floor mop.

  1. Declutter Before You Start
It’s impossible to do a deep clean with clutter all over the floor and counters so tidy up clothes, toys and papers, and throw away any excess rubbish first. Spring is a good time for out with the old and in with the new. Check for holes, rips, tears in your bedding and make a note to replace anything. Strip all the beds and put sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers and mattress protectors through the wash. You may need to do a couple of loads before the day is through.
  2. Clean From Top to Bottom
If you have a two or three story, start your cleaning with the rooms at top of the house and work your way down. The last thing you want to do is lug a vacuum cleaner upstairs when you’re tired! Working from top to bottom is also a good plan for rooms too. Dirty light fixtures and ceiling fans should be dusted and cleaned first using a dampened sponge or microfiber cloth to stop the dust resettling. Don’t forget to dust pictures, knickknacks, ceiling cornices, bookshelves and window blinds. Use your glass cleaner to spray and wipe the windows and any mirrors. Lastly give the floors and skirting boards a good vacuum to suck up any dust and dirt, use attachments as needed to get hard to reach areas. Check for stains and spot clean with carpet cleaner as you go.
  3. Cleaning Bathrooms & Kitchen
These rooms will likely need a bit of elbow grease and extra attention, so have a coffee break before you get started. Areas to concentrate on include:

Bathroom:

  • Cleaning grout between tiles
  • Cleaning the toilet
  • Cleaning the tub and shower
  • Wiping down counters, sinks and faucets
  • Wiping mirrors
  • Mopping the floor.

Kitchen:

  • Cleaning the inside & outside of fridge
  • Cleaning the pantry
  • Throw out any expired food
  • Cleaning the oven & range
  • Cleaning the backsplash
  • Mopping the floor.
  1. Final touches
By this time your home should be looking clean and smelling fresh. Some final touches to really ready your home for spring include:
  • Cleaning scuff marks off baseboards with a Magic Eraser
  • Wiping down window sills
  • Washing nets and curtains.

These can always be saved until the next day if you’re planning on spreading your spring cleaning over a weekend.
